For Those We Love

Sometimes I think the young generation that is saturating our work force gets a bad rap. Meet Kristina. She is a server at a local Mexican restaurant. As I was eating lunch at this incredibly busy spot, I couldn't help but notice how hard our server was working. She possessed multi-tasking skills, EQ to present a calm polite attitude to sometimes demanding customers and a strong work ethic. She took her work and her customers personally and did all she could to provide an excellent experience. So I had to inquire a bit about her story.

Kristina recently moved to the area from another state. She had a good job in her past home and was well on her way to finishing her degree. When she became aware that her grandparents were struggling and in need of help, she put her life on pause, packed up and moved to where they lived so that she could take care of them. She immediately had to secure income so she found this job to make ends meet. She told me her story with not a trace of bitterness or resentment. She said that she would find a way to continue school, work and take care of her grandparents.

During my conversation with her, there was no mention of life being unfair, not a hint of being entitled or expecting a hand out. There was a calm determination to do the right thing and to work hard to achieve her goals in life. All while displaying integrity and loyalty to her family.

Some of us may say that she just has old-fashioned values. I say that Kristina is a refreshing example of what it means to make a difference in the lives of those you love.
