Leading Through the Holiday's - Don't Be Grateful For Your Family

Don’t be grateful for your family.
That’s right, you heard me correctly. I do want you to grow your leadership by practicing gratitude, but I don’t want you to take the easy way out by giving thanks for the “big” things- like family, health, faith.
Instead, take the time to be specific about what you’re grateful for. What exactly about your family are you thankful for- what is it about the people you love that you appreciate moment by moment?
When you’re practicing gratitude, don’t stop at the big picture- I challenge you to go deeper and find the specific moments and instances that inspire thankfulness.
What does this look like? Instead of “I’m grateful for my family”, try “I’m grateful that my mom always remembers to make a sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on half because she knows my kids don’t like nuts.”
What are you grateful for? And remember, be specific.

I want to leave you with a reminder that you can behave your way to thinking, but you can’t think your way to behaving.
It's the beginning of a new year, and with the reset of the calendar tends to come the onslaught of New Years Resolutions. All those good habits you want to start, and bad habits you want to break- new year, new you! Right?!
You can’t fix your family. We’re coming up on the holidays, and with that comes a lot of time with family. It’s such a gift to be able to spend intentional quality time with those we love- although sometimes, it may seem like a gift that you wish you could return.
The last point for developing a gratitude practice- do it every day. Every. Single. Day. No matter what, no matter where, no matter when, find some time to intentionally practice gratitude however you choose to do that.
